How to Install Hardwood Floors
First thing is first, no matter the type of flooring we will always recommend having it professionally installed. Before we install your hardwood floors, we do an in-home measure and then a moisture test. Moisture testing is important because if there is moisture in the subfloor is can cause damage to your hardwood over time. After the moisture test, we make sure your subfloors are dry, flat, and free of imperfects before we go ahead and install your floors.
We make sure to leave a gap between the base of the walls and the floors because hardwood naturally expands over time. Once all of the planks are in place and installed, we'll check the surface to make sure there aren't any gaps between planks.
The type of hardwood floor you choose plays a role in how it can be installed in your home. Engineered hardwood comes in floating floors and can lock together, so no adhesives are needed. Solid hardwood is glued or nailed down for a permanent install so they planks do not shift.
Where Can Hardwood Be Installed?
Hardwood can be installed in places around your home like bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways. If you choose an engineered hardwood plank, you can install those in kitchens and in finished basements.
As beautiful and durable as hardwood can be, it does have some limitations on where it can be installed. That means you should avoid installing any type of hardwood in places like laundry rooms and bathrooms because of high moisture. At the same time, we don't recommend choosing solid hardwood for high traffic areas like commercial settings.
Hardwood can transform your bedroom into a private retreat, and it can handle the moderate levels of foot traffic you'd expect in bedrooms. Also, hardwood will not trap dirt, dust, and allergens, so it is a clean and healthy flooring option for bedrooms.
Hardwood floors make a great addition to your living room because they add style and provide warmth. Create a space where your guests feel comfortable and spark a conversation. Your hardwood floors can be a focal point of the room or help to tie together your existing home décor.
